The VIPER® Cortical Fix Fenestrated Screw System is the first pedicle screw implant to offer enhanced fixation in both the pedicle and vertebral body. The cortical fix thread form was designed to provide increased resistance to pull-out by doubling the number of screw/bone contact points. With the additional option to inject cement through the screw shank and into the vertebral body, this implant is key for patients with diminished bone quality in which screw purchase is a concern.
The VIPER Cortical Fix Fenestrated Screw is based on the technology of the EXPEDIUM® Spine System and VIPER System and the EXPEDIUM Fenestrated Screw in particular. With VIPER Cortical Fix Fenestrated Screw, DePuy Synthes Spine has a comprehensive portfolio to treat complex adult pathologies and is able to offer solutions for fixation in diminished bone quality through an open or MIS approach, with the intra-operative option to use cement.
The VIPER® Fenestrated Screw System is intended to be used with the CONFIDENCE SPINAL CEMENT SYSTEM® or the V-MAX® Mixing and Delivery System and the VERTEBROPLASTIC™ Radiopaque Resinous Material to provide immobilisation and stabilization of spinal segments in the treatment of acute and chronic instabilities or deformities of the thoracic, lumbar and sacral spine in patients with diminished bone quality (e.g., osteoporosis, osteopenia, metastatic disease).
It is intended to provide temporary internal support and fixation while fusion mass is consolidating or fracture is healing, or for the palliative reconstruction of the tumour patients.

Engages more of the posterior wall of the pedicle than standard VIPER and EXPEDIUM Screws.
|Cortical Fix Thread Form||
Double the number of contact points with the cortical wall of the pedicle, increases resistance with axial pull-out forces (compared with standard VIPER and EXPEDIUM Screws).
|Constant Thread Lead||
Allows for a smooth transition between the dual lead and quad lead thread forms during insertion.
|Dual Lead Thread||
Enables a large thread pitch, reducing insertion time.
|6 distal fenestrations||
Allows for cement injection directly into the vertebral body when required. Distal positioning is intended to ensure that cement does not flow back into the pedicle.
